Sensitive Temperature Probes Detail Different Turbulence Processes in the Deep Mediterranean

چکیده
In addition to large-scale water flows and eddies, small-scale turbulent mixing distributes heat, masses, suspended matter in the deep sea. contrast near sea surface, which is driven by wind waves redistributes solar heat input, occurs steep underwater topography such as ridges, seamounts, continental slopes. For example, above slope Western Mediterranean Sea, boundary flows, (sub-)mesoscale internal dominate motions. this area, wintertime dense-water formation, breaking of waves, geothermal heating are associated with mixing. As a result, vertical stable density stratification very weak. Detailed observations rare demand high-resolution instrumentation. This paper provides an overview various types turbulence observed using temperature sensors, including weak resulting from late summer autumn, strong caused below winter, moderate induced stratified waters pressing down during formation winter spring.

On Temperature Characteristics for Different Processes in the Same Organism
The temperature characteristics (micro) for two activities (heart beat and respiratory movements) studied simultaneously in the same individual organism (Daphnia magna) were always found to differ in magnitude. The type of graph obtained when the frequency of these movements was plotted according to the Arrhenius equation was also distinctly different for each activity. The organism therefore d...
متن کاملHydrocarbon-related microbial processes in the deep sediments of the Eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin.
During the 2011 exploration season of the EV Nautilus in the Mediterranean Sea, we conducted a multidisciplinary study, aimed at exploring the microbial populations below the sediment-water interface (SWI) in the hydrocarbon-rich environments of the Levantine basin. Two c. 1000-m-deep locations were sampled: sediments fueled by methane seepage at the toe of the Palmachim disturbance and a patch...
متن کاملCyanide-sensitive fluorescent probes
We characterize the response of several boronic acid containing fluorophores, which are widely used for sugar determination, towards aqueous cyanide. In two recent reports we have shown that boronic acid containing fluorophores can be used to sense aqueous cyanide through physiological safeguard levels. In this report we show that our new sensing mechanism is not just specific to our recently r...

متن کاملTemperature-sensitive mutations made easy: generating conditional mutations by using temperature-sensitive inteins that function within different temperature ranges.
Reversible and easy to use, temperature-sensitive (TS) mutations are powerful tools for studying gene function. However, TS alleles are rare and difficult to generate and identify, and this has limited their use in most multicellular organisms. We have generated and characterized 41 intein switches, temperature-sensitive Sce VMA mutations that splice only at the permissive temperatures to gener...
